The successor to the Nintendo Switch hasn’t been officially announced yet but that hasn’t stopped Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa  sharing a few details about their next console.

Speaking on X, the company president revealed that the Switch 2 will be able to play all of your existing Switch games.

Furukawa said: “At today’s Corporate Management Policy Briefing, we announced that Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch.”

I think most of us expected the Switch 2 (which I’m still hoping will be called the Super Switch) to be backwards compatible, but there was an underlying fear that it wouldn’t be because Nintendo can be a little…er, odd when it comes to things like that.

It was also confirmed that Nintendo Switch Online will carry over to the new console, with the subscription service apparently having over 34 million users now.

We also found out in the latest Nintendo financial report that the Switch is still selling well, and is within reach of becoming the best-selling console of all time.

All of this good news has helped Nintendo’s stock price jump up 5.8%.

As for the Switch 2 itself, Nintendo has reconfirmed that it’s on track to be announced by the end of their fiscal year, which is in March of 2025.
