Loretta Devine hinted that she had tension with her former “The Client List” co-star Jennifer Love Hewitt.
Devine, 75, said she had a “mixed” experience working with Hewitt, 45 — who also executive produced the Lifetime series that aired from 2012 to 2013 — in an interview with People at the American Black Film Festival Honors in LA on Monday.
“You know what? She decided to rewrite the entire angle of the show right in the middle,” Devine further claimed on the red carpet.
Devine said that, at the time, she was “was very excited” about the drama series, which was later canceled after two seasons.
“It was good,” added the actress, who played former massage parlor owner Georgia Cummings-Clemens. “Everything gets you prepared for whatever you’re going to do next.”
The Post has reached out to Hewitt’s rep for comment.
“The Client List,” based on the 2010 Lifetime TV film and created by Suzanne Martin, followed Hewitt’s Riley Parks, a single mom working as a massage therapist in Texas. The cast also included Cybill Shepherd, Rebecca Field, Alicia Lagano, Brian Hallisay and Colin Egglesfield.
The series was canceled in 2013 due to reported creative disagreements between producers and Hewitt, who wanted her real-life relationship with her co-star and now-husband, Hallisay, written into the show.
Hewitt was pregnant with her and Hallisay’s first child, daughter Autumn, while filming.
Deadline reported during the drama that Hewitt’s demands put her at odds with the showrunners, who preferred Egglesfield, the show’s male lead, to be Hewitt’s character’s baby daddy.
A rep for Hewitt told the outlet before the show’s cancelation, “There are many story lines we are exploring. So any suggestion that we are not doing our best to develop a great season is simply not accurate.”
Hewitt and Hallisay, 46, met on the set of the NBC series “Love Bites,” but they didn’t start dating until they both ended up on “The Client List.” They got married in Nov. 2013 and have three children together: Autumn, 11, Atticus, 10, and Aidan, 3.
The actors currently play a formerly married couple on the FOX procedural drama series “9-1-1.”
Hewitt celebrated being married to her husband for 11 years in an interview with People last year.
“That’s like 190 years in Hollywood,” the “Party of Five” alum joked. “I’m really proud of the family we’ve made together. I’m proud of us.”
