How To Do This Kick In The Can Art Project
Step 1
Cut paper down so that it will fit snug inside the can.
Step 2
Line your can with the paper.
Step 3
Squirt paint into the can.
Step 4
Drop the marbles or rubber balls in and out the lid on, securing it with tape. Now it’s time to play!
Craft Notes:
It’s best if you use only 2-3 colors. Too many colors will make brown, black, or gray, and it’s just not as fun and vibrant.
Step 5
Carefully take off the lid and take out the marble and paper to admire your artwork.
How To Play Kick The Can
It’s really simple, you kick the can and chase after it and keep kicking it. It’s like kicking a soccer ball, but in a can.
However, you can add different elements. You played a keep away version of kick the can. One of my kids was kicking the can to a destination while my other child tried to intercept it and kick it to another destination. Whoever made it to that destination first wins! Then we opened the lid, took out the page, and added a clean sheet of paper and more paint and repeated the process.
Modifications For Younger Kids
If you have a little one who isn’t quite coordinated yet to kick the can or isn’t quite walking steady let them roll the can or shake it.
Modifications For Older Kids
Use less marbles. If you only put 1 marble in the can it’ll have a more unique pattern and it’ll still work well since the older kids will be able to kick more.
Kick The Can Game Tips
We did hit a little snag. My kids are different ages so it was a little harder for the younger kids to play on the same level as the older kids. So, to open up communication and to keep frustration at bay, we came up with a phrase that would let the older kids know, “okay, it’s time to let the younger siblings have a turn.”
We also found that giving the younger children a head start made a big difference as well and evened out the playing field so to speak.
Our Experience With This Kick The Can Art Project
As mentioned above, we had a few snags, but it worked out and in the end everyone had fun. Plus, we had some very lovely art to look at and admire as well.
It was also a great way for us to get some exercise and sunshine too which I’m always appreciative of. And let me tell you, the kids slept well that night! Got rid of some of the excess energy.
But, I hope your family enjoys this kick the can art project as much as mine did.
