“Ted Lasso” fans will surely get a kick out of this.
Two weeks after “Ted Lasso” co-creator Bill Lawrence told The Post more episodes were possible in the not-so-distant future comes word the hit Apple TV+ show could be returning for a fourth season.
Warner Bros. Television, the studio behind behind the streaming soccer comedy, has picked up the options on three of the original, principal cast members, reports Deadline.
Sources told Deadline the studio’s netted Hannah Waddingham, who portrays AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Walton, Brett Goldstein, who plays the sailor-mouthed Roy Kent, and Jeremy Swift, Director of Football Operations Leslie Higgins on the show, for a possible fourth season.
At least that appears to be the goal.
The last episode of the show’s third season aired in May 2023.
The three British talents are members of Equity, the U.K.’s trade union for actors.
Next, the Deadline report indicates the studio would be reaching out to “Ted Lasso” cast members with expired SAG-AFTRA contracts.
Lawrence said earlier this month the show’s eventual return hangs on Ted Lasso himself, Jason Sudeikis.
Sudeikis, who spent years on the cast of “Saturday Night Live,” created the show with Lawrence and Brendan Hunt, or Coach Beard to “Lasso” fans.
The feel-good comedy was developed from a character Sudeikis created for a series of ads.
Deadline claims in addition to the co-creators and executive producers, the studio plans to contact actress Juno Temple, who plays Keeley Jones.
Before the studio can greenlight Season 4, budgets need to be approved and schedules confirmed, according to the report, noting production could begin in early 2025.
Deadline claims the moves by WBTV suggest Sudeikis is already on board.
“Ted Lasso” was always ever conceived as a three-season series.
However, Apple never actually labeled the show’s last episode the series’ final.
The series, which is set in England, ended with Ted moving back to Kansas.
Lasso is seen on a field in the episode, coaching his son’s soccer team.
