School-aged kids will learn about creating pixel art on graph paper in this easy project. This mess-free technique can easily be used at home or in the classroom.
What is a Pixel?
The pixel — a word invented from picture element — is the basic unit of programmable color on a computer display or in a computer image. Think of it as a logical — rather than a physical — unit.
In this project, artists will use basic graph paper to create artwork reminiscent of a magnified 2D pixelated image of candy.

Our Experience Making this candy pixel Art Project
This is such a fun project to complete when kids already have a lot of holiday candy on hand. Pixel art challenges me to let go of drawing many details in order to work in this block style. I do think I would make a few changes to my next pixel art project by letting go of even more wrapper details. I may also rethink the black outline since I can’t decide if I prefer the art with or without it. But, most importantly, we challenged ourselves to try new methods and enjoyed eating our candy afterwards!
