Why Draw a Cartoon Fight Scene?

Drawing in an animated style gives kids an opportunity to play and exaggerate their ideas. In this project kids are free to create scenes from their own imagination. By drawing a fight scene, kids practice drawing proportions, action, and emotions. This activity also encourages each child to create a storyline for the scene which could lead to future projects.

Creating Characters for the fight Scene!

Once kids have answered the top questions, they are ready to create practice sketches. Using their answers from Step 1, kids sketch multiple characters that might be involved in the fight scene.

Notice how the simple stick figures at the bottom of the page are drawn to convey both actions and emotions. Encourage kids to use similar techniques with their own drawings. Kids are to complete full character drawings, not stick figure renditions.

Bringing all of the creative ideas together!

When kids have completed a few character sketches, have them select their favorites. Taking a blank sheet of paper, kids draw and color these main characters and their fight scene. Remind kids to reference back to the original questions for adding a background and details into the drawing.
