Today we are doing a gingerbread man craft! We love gingerbread man cookies and the gingerbread man story. Kids of all ages will have so much fun making this gingerbread man craft. It’s a budget-friendly craft that uses only a few craft supplies. And the best part is, you can make this gingerbread man craft at home of in the classroom.
Gingerbread Man Craft
We are going to use simple items to make a gingerbread man. All you need is some paper, glue, glitter, and a toilet paper roll to make a paper gingerbread man. Younger kids and older kids alike should be able to do this craft with some adult supervision when they use the scissors and glitter.
This is a cheap and easy craft you can do during the winter or it can double as a Christmas craft. And your kids will not only be able to be creative with this fun craft, but also practice fine motor skills. So, without further ado, let’s make this fun and festive gingerbread man craft.

Supplies Needed To Make This Gingerbread Craft
How To Make Your Own Paper Gingerbread Man
Step 1
Paint your toilet paper roll brown. Let it dry.
Step 2
Draw a circle on your brown construction paper. This will be the gingerbread man’s head. Now draw 2 long ovals. This will be the arms and legs.
Step 3
Cut out all the pieces.
Step 4
Use your Elmer’s glue to make designs around the head.
And do the same at the end of the arms and legs. Add the glitter and allow it to dry.
Craft Note:
Put a larger piece of paper or tray underneath your head, arms, and legs when you’re using glitter to easily toss the excess or to put the excess back in the bottle. This will also help prevent glitter being around your house until the end of time.
Step 5
Cut the arms and legs in half. That way you have 2 arms now and 2 legs.
Step 6
Fold a small tab at the end of the arms and legs. Glue the arms on the side of the toilet paper roll towards the middle. Glue the legs on the side of the toilet paper roll towards the bottom.
Step 7
Paint a face onto the gingerbread man’s head. Glue it on the top of the toilet paper roll.
Step 8
Paint some gumdrop buttons onto the gingerbread man’s chest. And you’re done!
How To Make This Gingerbread Man Craft Your Own
You can change up whatever you need for this gingerbread man craft to better fit your child’s needs. You can do things like:
- Use buttons instead of painting eyes or gumdrops.
- You can use glitter glue sticks instead of free handing it.
- Use colorful designs instead of white or silver glitter.
- Make the arms and legs more accordion instead of straight.
- Add a paper hat and little shoes and make it a gingerbread man elf.
- Find a gingerbread man template or coloring page and color/cut/glue it to the toilet paper roll.
- Use crayons instead of paint or colored pencil to add designs.
- Use card stock instead of construction paper.
Our Experience With This Gingerbread Man Craft
What I love about this craft is that it’s good for kids of all ages like toddlers, preschoolers, kindergarteners, and even first grade students. It’s a good way to practice gross motor skills and hand-eye coordination, but it’s also a fun craft project too. It’s a fun activity based on a Christmas-themed story, A Gingerbread Christmas. We love the silliness of this Christmas story.
