Expedition 33 Is The Top Reviewed Game Of The Year, And Has Sold Half A Million Copies Already – WGB

Must Read

What a week! Not only did we get the announcement and launch of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, but we also got Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 from Sandfall Interactive. Made by a team of just 30 people, Expedition 33 has claimed the top spot as the highest reviewed game of the year so far.

On Metacritic, the game, which stars several big name actor includes Andy Serkis, currently holds an aggregated review score of 92 out of 100. That makes it the highest rated game of the year so far, although it is technically tied with Blue Prince which released a few weeks ago. However, because Expedition 33 has more reviews it gets to claim the top spot.

It’s the same over on Opencritic, where Expedition 33 boasts an aggregate score of 91, again giving it the top spot. Second place is held by Split Fiction with a score of 90.

On top of that success, Sandfall Interactive has also announced that Clair Obsciur: Expedition 33 has sold 500,000 copies in its first 24 hours. That’s a very impressive for a brand new IP. It’s also managed that feat while being available to Game Pass subscribers.

According to Sandfall’s tweet, they hit this milestone sooner than they imagined, so I can only assume they are satisfied with the game’s performance.

Unfortunately, we have no idea how much the game cost to make. The small development team of just 30 people, mostly former Ubisoft employees, has done insanely well to make it look as beautiful as it does and will have helped keep costs low. However, there’s some very expensive voice actors in the game, so that might have ramped the budget up somewhat.

But while we can’t judge the budget accurately, we can at least get an idea of how much money the game has brought in so far. With a $40 price tag and assuming all 500,000 customers paid that price for it, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has dragged in roughly $20 million so far.

But the really important part of this story is that you and me clearly need to go play this game like right fucking now.
