Celina, TX — October 21, 2025:
Fireworks erupted across several Celina neighborhoods late Sunday night, despite the city’s clear prohibition against such activity. The incidents, reported by multiple residents, took place even after the City of Celina issued a public notice warning that fireworks are strictly banned within city limits and within 5,000 feet of its boundaries.

The Public Safety Notice, posted on the City’s official Facebook page, stated that fireworks are banned under Article 5.05 of the City’s Code of Ordinances to “safeguard residents, reduce the risk of property damage, prevent fire hazards, and support the overall safety and well-being of the community.”

Yet, despite this public warning, fireworks lit up the night sky in several neighborhoods — endangering homes, frightening pets, and filling the air with smoke. Residents described the noise and commotion as “alarming” and “reckless,” especially given the dry weather conditions and dense housing patterns in the area.
Fireworks Near the Police Station — A Public Display of Defiance
One of the most concerning reports came from the Celina Hills neighborhood, located directly across from the Celina Police Station. Residents there allegedly set off fireworks well into the night, in plain view of law enforcement.
“If people can light fireworks across from the police station without any consequences, it raises real questions about enforcement,” said Michael Sanders, a Celina Hills homeowner. “This isn’t about cultural celebration — it’s about safety, law, and respect for our neighbors.”
Residents are calling on the Celina Police Department to visit Celina Hills, review footage, identify individuals involved, and issue citations. Many emphasized that this was not just a minor lapse in judgment but a clear violation of city law — one that demands accountability.
Celina is widely known as one of North Texas’s most welcoming and tight-knit communities. Locals often describe it as a town where neighbors help neighbors, where families celebrate together, and where diversity is embraced as part of the city’s growing identity
“We love living here,” said Jennifer Moore, a Light Farms resident. “Our neighbors are kind and respectful — people genuinely care for each other. But fireworks pose a real risk. One stray spark could cause a tragedy.”
Residents stressed that this issue is not about culture or celebration — it’s about public safety. The noise, smoke, and potential for fire pose a danger to homes, pets, children, and elderly residents alike.
“Everyone’s free to celebrate, but safety has to come first,” said Carlos Martinez, another Celina resident. “No one wants to see a joyful occasion turn into a disaster.”
Public Outcry and Debate Online
The City’s Facebook post drew dozens of comments and sparked a spirited debate among residents. Many supported the City’s firm stance on fireworks, while others questioned whether the ordinance applied during major holidays. The discussion highlighted a need for clearer communication — and for more consistent enforcement.
Spotlight: Lipika Bhargava
Among the commenters, Lipika Bhargava asked a straightforward question:
“Does it apply for July 4th and New Year too?”
The City responded:
“Lipika Bhargava – Yes, this applies at all times, including July 4th and New Year’s. Per the City’s Code of Ordinances, the use, discharge, or ignition of fireworks is strictly prohibited within the corporate limits of the City, as well as in areas immediately contiguous and adjacent to the City limits, extending for a total distance of 5,000 feet.”
While Bhargava’s comment was inquisitive, she faced backlash from several locals who opined that her question was needlessly provocative. The exchange underscored a larger issue — community dialogue should remain respectful, even when opinions differ.
Residents Demand Accountability and Transparency
Residents are now asking what steps the City will take in response to the violations.
“We’ve had similar incidents before, but no one was held accountable,” said Rachel D., a nearby resident. “The City owes it to law-abiding citizens to enforce the rules equally.”
Residents have cited Raleigh, North Carolina, as an example, where local police followed up after illegal fireworks incidents — canvassing neighborhoods, reviewing footage, and issuing citations days later. Celina residents are urging local authorities to adopt a similar approach.
“That’s what enforcement looks like,” said one commenter. “You investigate, identify, and hold people accountable — no exceptions.”
The Need for Action
The City’s own ordinance makes it clear: fireworks are prohibited to protect life and property. Ignoring such laws sets a dangerous precedent. Residents agree that Celina’s community spirit is strong — but law and safety must come before convenience or celebration.
“We can be proud of our culture and traditions while still respecting the law,” said Priya Nair, a Celina resident. “Good neighbors celebrate responsibly. That’s what community really means.”
For now, residents await a clear signal from the City — that rules apply equally to everyone, and that public safety remains Celina’s top priority.
