Origami Frog Tutorial For Kids of All Ages

Today we are folding an origami frog! Although this origami tutorial looks long and difficult, it is actually very easy. Younger kids should use a large piece of paper that adapts better to their dexterity, and older kids can try this origami with a regular 6 in x 6 in origami paper. Let’s get started!

Step 1

Start with a square piece of origami paper, placing it on your flat surface with the white side up.

Fold the paper in half diagonally, bringing one corner to the opposite corner.

Open the paper back up.

Put your finger in between the first flaps and use your left thumb to push down until you get the figure below.

Fold the right side up, bringing the edge to the top point to form a square.

Fold the top layer’s right and left corners toward the middle line.

Instructions

      1. Start with a square piece of origami paper, placing it on your flat surface with the white side up.

      3. Open the paper back up.
      4. Fold the paper in half diagonally again, this time in the other direction.
      5. Fold the paper in half once more, this time horizontally.
      6. Place your finger between the first flaps and use your left thumb to gently push down on the center until you form a triangular shape, like in the picture.
      7. Flip your paper over so the triangle points are facing down.
      8. Fold the right side up, bringing the edge to the top point to form a square.
      9. Unfold the last fold.
      10. Squash-fold the excess right corner toward the inside until the paper becomes a square again.
      11. Fold the top layer’s right and left corners toward the middle line.
      12. Flip the paper over and fold the right and left corners of the top layer toward the middle line again, making a kite shape.
      13. Unfold the folds you just made.
      14. Take the top layer of the paper and fold it slightly backward, allowing you to fold the sides inward and create a diamond shape.
      15. Turn the paper over and repeat the same fold on the other side.
      16. Open the side flaps on the front and fold them down flat again.
      17. Repeat the previous step on the back side.

      26. On one side, take the left and right flaps and push them forward.
      27. On the last folds, take the left side and fold it inward.
      28. Repeat the last step on the right side.
      29. Flip the paper over again.
      30. Open the paper and push down to recreate the shape you made earlier.
      31. Fold the left and right sides inward like before.
      32. Move the flap to the left, leaving you with the shape in the picture.
      33. Repeat the previous steps: open, squash down, and fold the left and right sides.
      34. Move the flap to the left again, and get ready to work on another side.
      35. Repeat the same steps on this side: open, squash down, and fold the left and right sides.
      36. Take one of the “legs” and fold it upward.
      37. Repeat this fold on the opposite side.
      38. Flip your paper over.
      39. Fold the remaining two legs upward.
